We are at the threshold of a new academic year- the anticipation and excitement being felt by the new students finds an echo in me and my colleagues at Rajdhani College. As we gear up for the year ahead, I would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome all our new students to this esteemed institution.Since its inception in 1964, the college has strived to set new benchmarks of excellence in academia, sports, literature, performance and public service. Each subsequent year, our students and faculty have scaled newer heights, setting higher goals for the students to come.By now we take pride in a rich tradition that comprises of academic luminaries; sportspersons of national and international repute; a Padmashri Awardee poet;famous media personalities; classical dancers, renowned theatre artists and top ranking civil servants.
As the new students join Rajdhani College, they become a new link in this illustrious continuum. Our highly motivated faculty, comprising of scholars of high calibre expertise, are there to guide our students every step of the way. Their professionalism and involvement with the students is ably matched by the cutting edge infrastructural facilities available in the college in the form of laboratories, auditorium, seminar room and sports facilities. The cultural scene of the college too, is vibrant around the year with regular competitions, talent hunt programmes, workshops and performances.
College life is about a newly gained freedom from the discipline of school days. However, I would like to insert a word of caution here. At Rajdhani College, we place a premium on self- discipline and hard work. I would like to re-iterate this point through a famous Sanskrit saying: Udyamen hi siddhyanti karyani na manorathai – Goals are achieved only through hard work, not merely by thinking about it.
My dear students, college life is a gateway to your bright future. Enjoy it but use it wisely. Realize your strengths; work on your weaknesses; with hard work and determination build the edifice for the grand success of tomorrow. In all this, remain true to yourself and you will definitely realize your dreams one day.
As the head of the institution, I take this opportunity to welcome you and bless you in the words of the famous bard Shakespeare:
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man. (Hamlet, Act I, Scene 3, line 79-81).
I wish you well for the future.
