DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE
The Department of Political Science of one of the oldest department of college. It was established in the year 1964. The department offers both B.A. Honours as well as B.A. Programme courses. The faculty of department consist of 13 faculty members.
The Department Programme Committee (Political Science Society named ―Discourse) organizes special Lectures/Seminars/Workshops/Debate Competitions both Intra & Inter-College/ Skill Development Workshops/ Career Counselling Workshops etc. at frequent intervals every academic session for the academic enhancement and enrichment of the students.
The students are provided exposure to national and international seminars, workshops, symposiums and youth leadership programmes organised across India. For this purpose the department organizes:
1. Study Tours to various parts of India
2. Field Visits such as:
• Visit to Parliament
• Teen Murthi Bhawan (Nehru Memorial)
• National Archieves
• Gandhi Bhawan.
• United Nations to United Nations Information Centre (UNIC)
• Rashtrapati Bhawan etc

Political Science Society
The department of Political Science creates a vibrant and engaging teaching-learning environment by focusing on multiple socio-political realities. This facilitates the interface between theoretical knowledge and practical experiences which not only enables students to engage with structured curriculum but also opens up the scope for the students to apply class room learning to the contemporary political scenario around the globe.
The Political Science Society has taken various initiatives during the academic session 2018-19 in motivating students to participate in myriad academic, socio-cultural and philanthropic activities. The Political Science Society has been playing critical role in organising seminars, conferences, symposiums, workshops and lectures to enrich academic endeavours of the faculty members and students of the department.
The academic session began with an Interactive Session for the new students on 5 September 2018. On 30 January 2019, Prof. Veena Kukreja, Head, Department of Political Science, University of Delhi delivered a lecture on Foreign Policy of India. Prof. Kukreja discussed the challenges to India’s Foreign Policy and how we can improve the position of India. She reflected on the declining relationship of India with some South Asian countries like Maldives, Sri Lanka and Nepal along with its position in SAARC. The lecture was followed by question-answer session that covered themes like India’s role in combating terrorism, Kashmir issue and South-South Cooperation.
To clear the Civil Services exam is the dream of many young persons who have a passion to serve the country by becoming part of the administration. On 13 February 2019, the society organised an Interactive Session on How to Prepare for Civil Services. The resource persons for the interactive sessions were: Dr. Vijay Kumar Sinha and Mr. Kumar Ajay from Samvad IAS Institute; Mr. Vikash Kumar, who qualified Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC); and Mr. Matin Khan, a UPSC aspirant turned actor, who played the role of a teacher in the award winning movie Gattu screened at the International Film Festival. Dr. Vijay Kumar Sinha focused on the problems and challenges related to the study of Philosophy and English Literature, and also suggested the solutions. Mr. Kumar Ajay addressed the nature of examination and the pattern to follow while preparing for it. During the question-answer session, he emphasised the need to choose the optional papers according to one’s interest. Mr. Matin Khan shared his experiences and journey from failure to success in life. The students thoroughly enjoyed interacting with all the panelists who patiently answered every query raised by the students.
The students of the department have proved their mettle in various fields. To mention a few, Ishika Kumari and Muskan Agnihotri did internship at Internshala Institute in Delhi. Jitender won many prizes in poetry competitions at various colleges. Ishika, Abhay Kumar Shukla, Muskan Dhawan and Ragini participated at various debate competitions and won many prizes. Nishant participated in the state-level marathon race and won silver and bronze medal in Haryana and Delhi respectively. Pooja, Laxmi, Nandini and Tamanna performed folk dance of Odisha on the occasion of the Annual Fest Transcend.
